Australian, Queensland and North Queensland superstar Johnathan Thurston has thrown his support behind Sydney Swans player Adam Goodes.

Thurston wants to make sure the wellbeing of Goodes is paramount.

"The main thing, the important thing that I want to get across is player welfare and where his headspace is at at the moment," Thurston said.

"That's the reason why I'm throwing my support behind him because obviously he's in a dark place at the moment, so as a current player of another code, but more importantly, I've met him a couple of times, so it's more about where his headspace is at the moment and his player welfare.

"Clearly he's going through a tough time so I'm sure he's got a good support base around him and I'm sure his family and close friends are getting around him, his teammates obviously and the code and other clubs as well.

"All I'm saying is I'm worried about his welfare and let him know that I support him and am hoping that he's getting through this."
