Winger Kevin Gordon has been handed a chance to win back his status as the Titans' greatest ever try-scorer after being named to replace the injured David Mead against the Rabbitohs at Cbus Super Stadium on Saturday.
Gordon's inclusion is the only change to the team that went down in golden point to the Sharks in Round 10 with Beau Falloon's expected return cruelled by a mishap at training on Monday, the club's reigning player of the year dislocating his wrist and facing two months on the sidelines.
Five-eighth Aidan Sezer is also in some doubt with a hamstring strain but trained strongly on Monday, giving coach Neil Henry confidence that he will be fit to take his place in the team.
Gordon has not been seen in the top grade since Round 1 due to a number of injuries and having started the year as the Titans' top try-scorer with 57, now has a chance to peg back Mead on 58.
Henry had the choice between Gordon and Kalifa Faifai Loa as Mead's replacement on the right wing but said that Gordon's performance for Burleigh last Sunday in the Intrust Super Cup convinced him the 25-year-old deserved his spot back.
"There was not much between Kevvie and Kalifa, they've both been playing some good football but I thought Kevvie was outstanding in [the Bears'] win on Sunday so he's got the nod," Henry said.
"Kevvie's speed and his carries have been very good so I think the momentum we get off his play-the-balls has been great. Kevin was highly involved in the game against the Cutters and scored a good try and was very good on that left edge with Brad Tighe.
"I think he's hungry to get another opportunity. Anthony Don and 'Meady' have been very good and very solid and we showed a bit of faith in those guys right through that period when we had those couple of losses."
With Beau Falloon (wrist) and Matt Srama (ankle) both undergoing surgeries in the space of 24 hours and Ryan Simpkins out for the season with an ACL injury, Henry has also been left light on for options in the hooking role.
Rookie Kierran Moseley and Daniel Mortimer will share the duties for at least the next six weeks with Henry confident Moseley has come to understand what is required each week in the NRL.
"He'd be the first to admit he's had a couple of down games and has been up for a while, we just need to make sure we're supporting him," said Henry.
"It's been a baptism of fire for him. With Beauy being unavailable at the start of the year and then injuries, our senior hooker hasn't been out there much at all and he's had to carry the load.
"We weren't very sharp with our attack against Cronulla but one thing he has improved is his defensive efforts so he's worked hard with Rohan Smith on his defensive technique and I think he is more confident in the middle now.
"The attack is not solely on his shoulders, it's a steep learning curve for him and we'll probably get Daniel Mortimer out there as well.
"He's got a lot of games under his belt and may play a bit more game time but if Aidan Sezer is out then we'll have to address that too."
A decision on whether captain Nate Myles starts or comes off the bench against South Sydney will be made after his return from Queensland Origin camp and dependent upon how he pulls up.
