Melbourne escaped with a narrow victory in a thrilling encounter at AAMI Park in round 14.
In Craig Gower's first game back in the NRL, the Knights shot out of the blocks with Joseph Leilua crossing in the sixth minute after bouncing off two defenders on the left edge.
A Tyrone Roberts penalty goal made it 8-0 to the Knights before a well-timed Gareth Widdop pass saw Maurice Blair cross for the Storm. However, the Knights took a well-deserved 14-4 lead when Jarrod Mullen produced a stunning attacking kick for Leilua to score his second of the day.
Melbourne's comeback began just before the break when a swift backline move saw Sisa Waqa score out wide to close the gap to four. The two sides went toe to toe in the second half and it took a superb Ryan Hoffman offload with 12 minutes remaining to decide the result as Billy Slater raced through to score and give the Storm a 16-14 win.
Waqa was superb for the home side with 179 metres, four tackle-breaks and a try while Knights prop Kade Snowden was the best player on the field with 187 metres and 39 tackles.
