New South Wales captain Robbie Farah today admitted he was shocked to hear about Benji Marshall’s departure from the Wests Tigers, but was quick to state the club need to move on.
The 29-year-old said he expected Marshall to be at Wests Tigers for years to come, however he would not get distracted from the task ahead on Wednesday night.
“I thought Benji would play at the Tigers for the rest of his career, but at the moment I’m just excited about the game tomorrow,” Farah said during a NSW Origin team press conference in Coogee.
”The club means a lot and we will move on. It’s disappointing but I will fully support him, as a mate he means a lot to me. No-one is bigger than the club.”
When asked about the Origin decider at ANZ Stadium tomorrow night, the Blues skipper expressed how proud he is to lead New South Wales in Paul Gallen’s absence.
”I’m looking forward to the game, it’s an honour to captain this side,” Farah said.
“I feel I belong in Origin.”
The hooker added: “Our preparation has been spot on. We can’t feel sorry for ourselves.”
New South Wales are aiming to end Queensland’s seven-year winning streak tomorrow night in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 82,000 fans in Sydney.
