The Tasmanian Rugby League is pleased to announce the formation of a new Club, the North West Coast Titans. The Club was formed following a meeting of interested parties in April and will participate in the 2013/2014 season later this year.
The Tasmanian Rugby League is now a truly State Wide competition with Clubs based in the South, North and North West from this season onwards. The Launceston Warriors joined the competition in 2012 and were minor premiers after a very successful first season.
In other Rugby League news three Tasmanians will be participating in the Affiliated States Carnival in Adelaide in June. The Carnival features representative Teams from Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory, and an Australian side will be selected after the Carnival to tour Samoa later in the year.
Mick Hunt, the TRL’s Coaching Coordinator, will be attending as an Australian selector. Mick is a highly experienced Coach who has taken the Hobart Tigers to three premiership wins in the past four seasons.
Criff Tupou, from the Launceston Warriors, has been selected to represent South Australia. With Tasmania not participating in the Carnival at this time, Tupou, a rugged front row forward, was invited by South Australia to press his claims for a spot in the Australian side.
And Tasmania’s number one referee, Scott Dyson, will be officiating at the Carnival for the first time. Scott has also been invited by the strong Canterbury Bankstown Rugby League Competition to referee a number of Club games in Sydney in May.
The Tasmanian Rugby State Wide competition will commence in October this year. Any person interested in being involved should contact the Chairman, Justin Kearney, on 0468 427 858.
