There is no greater list of players in rugby league than those tagged as ‘Immortals’. Churchill, Fulton, Gasnier, Raper, Langlands, Lewis, and most recently Beetson, are the standard by which all other past and present players are measured.

Tonight on NRL Daily, host John Gibbs takes an inside look at tonight’s announcement of the eighth Immortal at Doltone House in Sydney.

“Andrew Johns is the best player I’ve ever seen,” Gibbs said. “From a purely football ability perspective I think he’s the best, so he deserves to be the next Immortal.

“He could do everything on a football field and the biggest accolade I could give him is that he made players around him look good.”

Gibbs points to Johns’ selection as Halfback of the Century as his final argument why he should be inducted as an Immortal.

“He was selected as Halfback of the Century,” Gibbs said. “The most influential position in the team selected as the best of the best.”

Also on tonight’s show, newly retired superstar Nathan Hindmarsh reviews the big moments of 2012 and we preview the Telstra Premiership Grand Final.
