Raiders 24
The Moment: Statistics confirm the Wests Tigers are the most deadly attacking side from within their own territory in 2010 – and didn’t the Raiders find out the hard way last Friday night? Trailing 12-6, the Green Machine should have sensed this 20th-minute ambush.

Wests Tigers captain Robbie Farah packed into a scrum at lock, 32 metres out from his line. Halfback Robert Lui fed the ball, then beat a hasty retreat down the blindside.

Farah picked up the ball at the base of the scrum and headed left, ignoring decoy runner Chris Lawrence who sucked in the attentions of Raiders halfback Josh McCrone.

That left Raiders winger Daniel Vidot exposed, with Farah gifting Tuqiri clear passage down the left flank from 55 metres out. The dreadlocked one had too much pace for Josh Dugan’s desperate cover and was able to arc around to score under the black dot for a demoralising 18-6 lead.

It was the Wests Tigers’ 23rd try from over halfway all season, the most from long range by any side. Anyone game enough to say there won’t be more to come?

CLICK HERE to see how dangerous the Tigers can be from within their own half.

Roosters 34 def. Panthers 12
The Moment: Despite losing strike weapon Michael Jennings in the first minutes of this sudden-death encounter the Panthers did remarkably well to trail just 12-nil at halftime.

They had to be the first side to post points in the second stanza… but they weren’t. It was curtains for their season when Roosters halves Todd Carney and Mitchell Pearce combined for a glorious sideline-to-sideline sweep that ended with winger Sam Perrett diving over in the right corner unopposed.

In the 46th minute tri-colours centre Kane Linnett was held up over the Panthers’ tryline on the left edge. He trooped back to resume play on the 10-metre line – the ideal distance for a set play. Carney took the ball at first receiver and shaped to pick up one of either Daniel Conn, who ran an inside line, or Mitchell Aubusson charging on his outside. But both were decoys; instead he passed to Pearce, who torpedo-passed to centre Shaun Kenny-Dowall on the fly 20 metres out, who gave Perrett a clear run to the line. Beautiful decoy running, with multiple bodies in motion, capped off by superb hands and execution. At 18-0 there was no way back for the Panthers.

CLICK HERE to see the Roosters' backline at its best.
