Brimson rewarded for loyalty with healthy contract upgrade

AJ Brimson will call the Gold Coast home for another three years after declining to meet with rival suitors and ink a Titans extension through until the end of 2022.

New coach Justin Holbrook has landed a significant retention coup with what's understood to be a healthy two-year upgrade for Brimson, who was able to entertain rival offers since the start of November.

Wests Tigers, among other outfits, expressed interest in the rising utility, who made his debut for Australia during the World Cup 9s, followed by a Junior Kangaroos start against France in October.

But Brimson's first preference was always to stay on the Gold Coast, and discussions with rival teams never progressed to meetings or club tours.

Having risen through the Titans’ junior ranks to a first-grade debut in 2018, Brimson recently bought a house at Parkwood and looms as a key pillar of the club's rebuild under Holbrook.

"It is terrific news that AJ will be with us again until the end of 2022," Holbrook said.

"AJ is a perfect example of the Titans production line in action – a local junior who came through the club’s development system to play NRL in his home town.

"AJ’s story is not unique to the club, because we are lucky to have a lot of local juniors here who have followed that path.

"But certainly AJ is another example of the template that we will use to take the Titans forward on the back of the best talent produced in the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region.

"AJ is an exceptional young player as we all know, highlighted by the fact he is now on the radar of representative selectors. But importantly he is also an impressive young man, a quality human being who has a passion for this club and his community."

Brimson has added extra muscle to his 21-year-old frame as he bids to replace Michael Gordon as the Titans' long-term fullback.

Gordon will be on hand as Brimson's personal sounding board in 2020, taking up a development coaching role at the club following his retirement.

Brimson has played 36 games for the Gold Coast since debuting two years ago and was a member of Queensland's Emerging Origin camp at the start of the season.
