Biography

Veronica White is a former player, coach and administrator who played a leading role in establishing and formalising women’s rugby league in Australia.

White played 16 Tests for Australia from 1995 to 2004 but her on-field achievements are matched by the legacy she created off the field.

A former president of the Australian Women’s Rugby League, White was the first woman to become a life member. She was an integral part in developing the Women’s Inter-State Competition in 1999, that has now evolved into State of Origin, and pushed for a national women’s competition to be formed back in the 1990s.

The NRL recognised White’s significant contribution to the game by naming the Veronica White Medal - the women’s equivalent to the Ken Stephens Medal - in her honour. The Veronica White Medal is awarded each year to the NRLW player considered to have had the greatest impact on their local community.

White sat on numerous women’s rugby league committees, including Ipswich, Sydney, Brisbane, Queensland and NSW, during her playing career.

She was a member of the first official Australian women’s team in 1995 and played at the 2000 and 2003 World Cups. Her last Test was against the Kiwi Ferns in 2004.
