Biography
From the moment he exploded onto the scene with 19 tries in his debut season for Melbourne in 2003, Billy Slater was destined for greatness. Part of the Storm’s Big 4 alongside Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk and Greg Inglis, the flyer from Innisfail was part of the 2012 and 2017 premiership sides and collected the Clive Churchill Medal in 2009 and 2017 as the player of the match in the grand final.
His tally of 319 games for the Storm is the third highest in club history behind Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk and his haul of 190 tries is the most for the Storm and third most in premiership history behind Ken Irvine and Alex Johnston. Slater took home the game’s most coveted individual award the Dally M Medal in 2011 and the Golden Boot award as the game’s best player in 2008.
Billy Slater's NRL tribute
Slater made his debut for Queensland in 2004 and scored one of the best Origin tries ever seen when he regathered a Darren Lockyer kick and then chipped over the top of Blues fullback Anthony Minichiello to regather and dot down for the first of his 12 Origin tries. Played a leading role in the Maroons’ eight-year Origin dynasty and also wore the green and gold of Australia in 30 Test matches, savouring World Cup glory in 2013 and 2017.
