Biography
Sam grew up in Cooma, New South Wales, Australia with his parents and brothers. With an older and younger brother, Sam had no problems finding someone in his home to play ball with as a child. Sport was a big part of their childhood, Sam’s favourite sports were cricket, football, tennis and skiing.
Sam was known to be competitive, busy and sociable as a child and therefore loved joining a Rugby League team at six years old. He met great friends through his teams over the years and Sam’s Dad loved cheering for him on the sidelines. Sam and his Dad did not cheer for the same team in the NRL though as Sam was a passionate Canberra Raiders supporter while his dad supported the Parramatta Eels.
For years Sam was waving the Raider’s flag and cheering for his team, then in 2011 Coach Dave Furner gave him the news he had dreamed of, an NRL debut for the Canberra Raiders. As Sam ran onto the field even his dad had to support the Canberra Raiders!
Sam played for both the Canberra Raiders and the St George Illawarra Dragons during his time at the NRL, he was also thrilled to represent Country Origin and playing for Australia in U20’s.
These days, Sam lives in Jerrabomberra, New South Wales, Australia with his wife and son Archie. Sam is a passionate NRL ambassador who loves using his profile to make a difference to people in the community. He is the captain coach at the Queanbeyan Kangaroos, visits schools and grows the game of Rugby League.
Sam’s goal as an ambassador is to grow the game of Rugby League by connecting communities to local clubs.
