Collection Statement
1. Introduction
In this Collection Statement "we", "us" and "our" and the "NRL" means Australian Rugby League Commission Limited, National Rugby League Limited and each of its associates, related entities and subsidiaries and the States. Please read this Collection Statement and our related Privacy Policy carefully as it describes the way in which we will collect, hold, use and disclose your Personal Information. Capitalised terms in this Collection Statement have the meaning given to such terms in our Privacy Policy.
Please be aware that you are under no obligation to provide us with your Personal Information and you may request we delete any Personal Information we hold about you at any time. We also use certain third parties, to act as our agent in our collection of your Personal Information. These third parties may use their employees, agents or contractors (or those of its related entities) to do so. These third parties aggregate your Personal Information and provide us with a copy. We will not engage these third parties unless it has first taken steps reasonable in the circumstances to ensure that the Personal Information it collects on our behalf is collected and handled only for the purposes we require.
In addition to collecting your Personal Information on our behalf, these third parties may also from time to time seek to collect, hold, use and disclose your Personal Information as a principal for their own business purposes. Where they propose to do so, please note that such third party uses will be governed not by the terms of our Privacy Policy but by the terms of the applicable third party privacy policy which those third parties should make available to you before collecting any Personal Information from you (for example, when you are purchasing tickets to a Match). You should ensure you are given access to and understand the terms applicable to the relationship that exists between you and those third parties in relation to their separate uses of your Personal Information.
We may also collect Personal Information about you from our Rugby League Partners as part of our relationship with a Rugby League Partner.
2. Purpose of collection
The primary purpose for which we collect your Personal Information is to provide you with information about us, our upcoming events and the products and services we provide. We may also use or disclose your Personal Information for the following related secondary purposes (without limitation):
- as part of the best practice preference centre and/or data storage architecture administered by the NRL and operated in conjunction with the Clubs, States and selected third parties;
- for internal purposes including management reporting, trend analysis and servicing of you and your membership and/or other relationships with us;
- to assist us with research and product development to improve your experience;
- to provide you with news, offers and other information about the broader game of Rugby League (including participation grassroots and social forms of the game); and
- to provide our Rugby League Partners with certain non-Personal Information to assist in our work with them.
We may also use your Personal Information to evaluate and service our relationships with our Rugby League Partners, including to tailor your experience interacting with our Rugby League Partners.
4. Consequences of your refusal to provide personal information
The main consequence if you do not provide us or our agents with your Personal Information is that we will not be able to provide you with information about us, our upcoming events and the products and services we provide, including things such as discount offers (including from our partners), ticketing and exciting initiatives we are undertaking. In some instances, it may even mean you are not able to access the NRL Network (or parts of it).
4. Disclosure to third parties
We may disclose your Personal Information to our service providers for the purposes set out in this Collection Statement, such as information services providers, information technology providers and other similar third party organisations.
Unless you inform the NRL otherwise, we will disclose your Personal Information to Clubs, States and other third parties such as Rugby League Partners, including as part of the Rugby League Exchange, to enable such recipients to provide you with information, materials and promotional opportunities. The Rugby League Exchange allows us to more effectively coordinate promotional and information sharing activities.
The type of Personal Information we may disclose to those third parties includes your name, date of birth, address, phone number, email address, favourite players and teams and all other information that we, through our agents, collect from you in the course of purchasing membership, ticketing and/or other products and services from us. Other than overseas recipients (see section 5), we ensure that any organisation to which we disclose your Personal Information implements appropriate information security safeguards and protections in accordance with applicable privacy laws (including the Privacy Act and GDPR). In certain circumstances, we may disclose your Personal Information if and when required to do so by law, for example, to assist law enforcement agencies with their inquiries.
The NRL will provide you with a variety of ways to access, review and manage your Personal Information. For example, if you have an NRL Account you can use your login credentials to access, review and manage your Personal Information at any time. If you don't have an NRL Account, you can still opt out of and otherwise manage your communications preferences via links in emails and other communications we send to you from time to time.
5. Transborder data flows
We may disclose your Personal Information to overseas recipients for things such as processing membership and hosting services. The most likely destinations for such activities are China, the United States and New Zealand, although countries where such recipients are located may vary. By accepting this Collection Statement and providing the NRL with your Personal Information, you are providing express consent for the NRL to disclose your Personal Information overseas. You are aware that by providing such consent, NRL will cease to be accountable for the overseas recipient's handling of your Personal Information under applicable privacy laws (including the Privacy Act and GDPR) and that you will not be able to seek redress from the NRL under applicable privacy laws (including the Privacy Act and GDPR) in relation to that use of your Personal Information overseas.
