The South Sydney Rabbitohs will continue with plans to build a High Performance Community Centre at Heffron Park in the South Sydney district, despite the Federal Government announcing their withdrawal of $16 million in promised funding to Randwick City Council for the project.
The Rabbitohs have expressed their disappointment at the Federal Government’s decision, but will continue to work hard alongside project partners Randwick City Council, Marcellin College, Souths Juniors, Souths Cares and the National Rugby League to fulfill a plan to build this high quality facility which will bring great benefits to the South Sydney community.
The Centre will provide a new home for Souths Cares – the community service organisation established by the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2007, as well as first class community sporting facilities which will assist the Rabbitohs, South Sydney Juniors, Marcellin College and the NRL in achieving their goals of having children and young adults involved in sport and living a healthy and active life.
Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson says South Sydney will continue its discussions with its community partners and Government at all levels to show them why this is a project they should get behind.
“It was disappointing to get this news following Treasurer Hockey’s announcements this week, but we are determined to have this High Performance Community Centre built because we know of the great benefits it will bring to the community as a whole,” Mr Richardson said.
