Queensland's 6-4 Origin victory over New South Wales on Wednesday was a huge night on so many levels.
From a state perspective, Queensland shouldn't be more proud of the Maroons' hard-edged style they displayed to nut out the two-point win.
Individually it was a special night for many of Queensland's finest. For three Maroons legends Matt Scott, Nate Myles and skipper Cameron Smith in particular it will be a night they'll never forget.
Scott played his 20th Origin for Queensland – partnering Myles in the front row for his 30th game – and said the time spent with the Maroons has been a credit to his learnings as a player and his longevity as one of rugby league's finest front-rowers.
"It was an extremely proud night for me. I'm very humbled and very fortunate to play part in this side. It's a great experience every time I come into camp and one that I never ever want to give up," Scott told NRL.com.
"To be able to get the 20 games up is very gratifying. Personally and individually I think it's been great for me to come through and play with guys like Petero [Civoniceva], 'Pricey' (Steve Price) and even Nate.
"You learn a huge amount off them. Even guys like Cameron Smith, you learn from him, how he leads the team around and his demeanour on the field. So being in this Queensland side for so many years has done wonders for me."
Smith became the most-capped Origin player with 37 games, overtaking legend Darren Lockyer on Wednesday night.
The Storm, Queensland and Kangaroos captain said he took time out of his day in the lead-up to recognise the record breaking game considering the role Lockyer played throughout his development and career.
However Smith was even happier for the likes of his front-row partners.
"I was more pleased for the guys that were making their debut and the likes of Matty Scott playing his 20th and Nate Myles playing his 30th," Smith said.
"I've been lucky enough to have those milestones and I've got great memories of those matches. I think it's important those guys get that opportunity to have the same sort of memories I have.
"They've been able to achieve that and they'll have that for the rest of their lives now."
There was much conjecture over Myles' selection for the Queensland team considering his lacklustre form for the Sea Eagles of late but Scott was satisfied with the veteran prop's contribution.
"Nate did extremely well," Scott said. "I thought he led from the front. He looked to get some carries early in the game and I thought he made a big statement about his place in the team."
Scott also said he was "immensely proud" of Cowboys teammate and Origin debutant Justin O'Neill for the crucial role he played in Queensland's victory – including providing the assist for their only try.
"'Juzzy' thoroughly deserved his spot. He's been great for us at the Cowboys and I thought he was outstanding on debut," Scott said.
"He was under a lot of pressure there a few times and was rattled early on in the game but he really showed great character and great skill to come up with a few big plays."
