The fans have spoken and eight classic State of Origin moments remain - which one was the greatest of all?
Today, one of the Blues' greatest ever players goes up against a moment NSW fans spent a long time waiting for.
Johns to the rescue
With the Blues losing the first match of the 2005 series 24-20, the Blues sent out an SOS to Andrew Johns. The future immortal had been plagued by back and knee injuries in his later career and in 2005, finally looking like putting together some game time and returning to peak form, was cruelly rubbed out by a broken jaw in a collision with Warriors fullback Jerome Ropati. He was touch-and-go for Game Two in Sydney and when he did run out in his old sky blue No.7 jersey, it was his first competitive hit-out more than a month. But in the way only a player of Johns's class can, he turned in a match-winning performance in his side's 32-22 triumph, then backed it up in Game Three as the Blues romped home 32-10 at Suncorp – their last series win for eight years.
The streak is over
After eight long years for New South Wales supporters, the Blues finally struck back with a series win over their own in 2014. After winning a tight series opener 12-8 in Brisbane, the Blues ground out an even lower-scoring tussle in the second game in Sydney 6-4 thanks to a try and conversion from new halfback Trent Hodkinson. After such a long wait for the Origin shield NSW didn't dare risk a last-gasp match-winner from the Maroons, with Jarryd Hayne receiving a kick in the dying stages and running the ball past his own dead ball line. He didn't stop there, charging into a sea of blue in the crowd before some emotional celebrations.
