With coach Brad Fittler and the City Origin selectors to name their side this Sunday to face Country at Wagga Wagga's McDonalds Park on May 3, we at NRL.com have put our heads together to devise who we would select for the match. Here's the 17 we've come up with.
1. Matt Moylan (Panthers)
Moylan has been the shining light in Jamie Soward and Peter Wallace's absence at the Panthers this season. Made his City debut last year and a good game next Sunday would give his State of Origin chances a huge boost.
2. Pat Richards (Wests Tigers)
Because why not? At 33, Richards is one of the oldest players in the NRL but his form dictates he should be picked for City Origin. With plenty of wingers injured at the moment including Josh Mansour and Brett Morris, an appearance here would do his New South Wales chances no harm.
3. Will Hopoate (Eels)
Having moved back to the centres for the Eels' win over the Knights last weekend after spending much of the year at fullback, Hopoate should add to his two City appearances in the coming weeks.
4. James Roberts (Titans)
The Titans centre, otherwise known as the intercept king, will go close to making his representative debut for City – especially if Dylan Walker keeps his centre spot in the Kangaroos line-up.
5. Daniel Tupou (Roosters)
The incumbent NSW winger's selection in the City Origin team is a no-brainer considering his solid form for the Roosters in 2015.
6. Josh Reynolds (Bulldogs)
This is Reynolds's time to shine. With debate raging over whether he and Dogs halves partner Trent Hodkinson keep their Origin spots, this is his chance to prove to selectors he's the man for the job.
7. Trent Hodkinson (Bulldogs)
The same applies to Hodkinson as does Reynolds. Debate rages over whether Laurie Daley should remain loyal to the indifferent form of the Bulldogs halfback, who helped carry NSW to their first Origin victory since 2005 last season. A good game for City would seal his fate for Origin I.
8. Andrew Fifita (Sharks)
With his two-week suspension due to end after Round 8, the next game Fifita plays will probably be the City v Country clash where he'll stake his claim for a return to the Origin arena.
9. Robbie Farah (Wests Tigers)
The incumbent New South Wales hooker may not need to play this game, though considering he has played for City six times previously it's hard to go past him. Eels rake Nathan Peats was very unlucky to miss out on our team and could get the nod on Sunday.
10. David Klemmer (Bulldogs)
Like fellow prop Fifita, Klemmer is coming off suspension but will be up for City selection once again. Don't be surprised to see him start either, something he is yet to do for the Bulldogs.
11. Ryan Hoffman (Warriors)
Considering his form for his new club in the Warriors, 2014 captain Hoffman should be available to throw on his eighth City jumper.
12. Tony Williams (Bulldogs)
Played State of Origin last season and has done enough at the Bulldogs to warrant City Origin selection.
13. Anthony Watmough (Eels)
The same ruthless Watmough has made his presence known at his new club Parramatta and while his form doesn't warrant Kangaroos selection as such, his showings should guarantee he throws on a City jumper for the first time in eight seasons.
Interchange
14. Mitch Pearce (Roosters)
Waiting in the wings to reclaim the Blues halfback role, Pearce will go close to playing State of Origin if Hodkinson doesn't pick up his game quick smart.
15. Luke Lewis (Sharks)
The veteran utility has always been an asset for New South Wales and is slowly returning to his best for the Sharks. It would be Lewis's first City cap in seven years if he's picked. Lewis's selection keeps Penrith's Tyrone Peachey out of our side, just.
16. Wade Graham (Sharks)
After being a late omission from the City team last season, the Sharks vice-captain should add to his lone game for the city slickers froma 2013.
17. Darcy Lussick (Eels)
The Eels prop has taken his game to a new level in 2015 and deserves all the plaudits he can get. Debuted for City last season and would go close to getting picked again.
