NRL Mailbox: Cancer Council Call to Arms

NRL.com Wed, May 09, 2012 - 9:00 AM

With cancer affecting 50 per cent of Australian men by the age of 85, rugby league is again doing its part to help the fight against men’s cancer.

For the third year, Rugby League’s One Community is partnering with the Cancer Council for the Call To Arms Campaign and the Australian Rugby League Commission is calling on NRL teams, rugby league fans and grass-roots clubs to help save men’s lives by raising funds and awareness of men’s cancer during this weekend’s Telstra Premiership round of matches.

The Round 10 matches will form part of the Call To Arms Campaign “BBQ for Prostate Cancer” and, as part of the Council’s push to make young men aware of the dangers of cancer, the Knights, Sharks, Dragons and Panthers will be wearing yellow armbands on the field this weekend.

The Eels have already shown their support last weekend in their home match against the Bulldogs, by wearing yellow armbands and shoelaces.

With Cancer Council research showing that one in two men will develop cancer by the age of 85, the Call to Arms Round is such an important opportunity for rugby league players and fans to make a difference.

Funds raised through the Call To Arms campaign help prevent and detect cancers in men, find new treatments, as well as support men in need by funding Cancer Council’s important cancer research, prevention and support programs.
