Manly centre Clint Gutherson seems likely to miss the rest of the 2015 NRL Telstra Premiership season with a ruptured ACL, while five-eighth Kieran Foran will be sent for scans after suffering a hamstring strain.
In a horror night for the northern beaches club, star halfback Daly Cherry-Evans announced he would be leaving at the conclusion of the year for the Gold Coast, while the side also suffered a huge 42-12 opening round loss at Parramatta.
Speaking after the game, coach Geoff Toovey said he feared Gutherson would miss the rest of the year, adding the injuries had contributed to his side’s disorganised defence against Parramatta.
"Yeah that hurt us a lot. It looks like Clint's done his [anterior] cruciate ligament. Unfortunately at this stage I think that will be it for him for the year," Toovey said.
"That adjustment, you don't carry a specialist outside back which makes it tough for us. There was a bit of juggling there."
Second rower Tom Symonds spent the majority of the match in the centres, while new recruit Blake Leary got more game time than he would have been expecting in the back row.
Foran hobbled off 15 minutes from fulltime favouring his hamstring but Toovey seemed less concerned about Foran’s fitness.
"Kieran's got a hamstring strain and he had to come off with 20 to go so that's a fair loss there as well," he said.
Toovey wouldn’t speculate on which players would come in but said he remained hopeful that some of his injured stars – such as centre Steve Matai and back-rower Jamie Buhrer – would be available in the coming weeks.
