Dragons captain Ben Hornby spent time in hospital battling a severe gastro virus leading up to the game against the Warriors in Round 25 of last season, but he was determined not to miss the home-match farewell for himself and fellow retiring teammate Dean Young at WIN Stadium.

Hornby was one of several Dragons players affected and he was still in doubt on the day of the game, but he managed to play and the effort was worthwhile because the Dragons won 38-6.

The Warriors were still in the contest at halftime, trailing 12-6, but were shut out 26-0 in the second half as the home side turned it on for Hornby and Young.

Prop Trent Merrin led the way up front superbly for the Dragons, but fullback Jason Nightingale was the man of the match with some great running of the ball and two tries.
