It was a tough weekend for Gold Coast Titans' feeder teams Tweed Heads and Burleigh as both sides crashed to heavy defeats in Round 18 of the Intrust Super Cup.
Burleigh were on the receiving end of a 64-6 spanking by Redcliffe with the Dolphins running in 11 tries at Pizzey Park including a double to Brisbane Broncos rookie Tom Opacic.
Melbourne Storm winger Young Tonumaipea scored three tries playing in the centres for the Sunshine Coast Falcons as they dispatched a disappointing Tweed Heads Seagulls 49-10.
Tweed Heads opened the scoring in the third minute through a runaway try to Karl Lawton, but their defence disintegrated as the Falcons crossed for six-straight tries to lead 32-6 at half-time.
A four-pointer to Seagulls skipper James Wood gave the visitors some hope of a comeback until three late tries and a field goal on the siren sealed the Falcons' fifth win of the season.
In Sunday's other results, Easts Tigers held on for an 18-16 victory over a fast-finishing Ipswich Jets to remain in fifth on the ladder, three competition points behind Ipswich, while Wynnum Manly maintained third spot courtesy of a 36-14 win over cellar dwellers CQ Capras.
On Saturday, the Townsville Blackhawks ensured they remained three points clear at the top of the ladder after their 50-6 drubbing of lowly Norths.
The Intrust Super Cup's latest franchise never looked troubled by the Devils, leading 38-0 at half-time during their nine-try rout at Jack Manski Oval.
Defending premiers Northern Pride had their finals hopes dented with a shock 17-8 loss against Souths Logan.
The Magpies decided to move their home game from Piggabeen Sports Complex to the Tully Showgrounds, only a two-hour drive south for the Cairns-based Pride.
Despite having an unequivocal 'home' crowd behind them, the Pride slipped to their eighth loss of the season to remain on 20 points, one win behind the sixth-placed Mackay Cutters who received a weekend bye.
