Australia might have won where it mattered with a 52-6 World Cup victory over France at Canberra Stadium, but French fullback Mark Kheirallah stole the show with a length-of-the-field try that might just win him Try of the World Cup honours.
The Kangaroos skipped out to a 10-point lead after 14 minutes but any thoughts of a cricket score were momentarily put on hold as Kheirallah scooped up a Cameron Smith grubber kick intended for Billy Slater and then set off for a 95-metre run that wowed even the most die-hard Australian fans.
While they would eventually concede 10 tries to one, French fans will always remember what the Australian-born Kheirallah was able to produce on the game's biggest stage.
"I didn't really think too much. I just put my head down and just aimed for the post. I felt Josh (Dugan) behind me and thought 'oh Jesus!'," he told Channel Seven after the game.
"I don't think I'll ever get a match quite like it. They're all world class and it showed today. I thought we were with them in the first half but they came away with it in the end.
"They kept us in our own half for the entire first half so the pressure just kept building and building and we cracked in the end."
While the French fullback is set to become an instant social media sensation, even he had to take a back seat to man of the match Wade Graham who ran amok with four tries in just his second appearance in the green and gold jersey.
Having scored a hat-trick against the Raiders earlier in the year, the Sharks back-rower continued his love affair with Canberra as he piled on three first-half tries before he added to his tally in the 66th minute to become the tournament's leading try-scorer.
"That's something I've never dreamed of. Playing for Australia in the first place [is amazing] but to score four tries…I'm blown away," Graham said.
"I wish I could explain it, but obviously I'm stoked with how the team went. To be able to get across the line is just a bonus."
Having played from the bench in the tournament-opening win over England, Graham made the most of his first Kangaroos start on Friday night and must now be a chance of retaining his spot on the left edge for next week's game against Lebanon.
The Kangaroos are undefeated after two games and are odds on to top Pool A, but Graham believes there is still room for improvement as they approach the knockout stage of the competition.
"It's a work in progress still and we're trying to improve after each game," he said.
"We certainly took some steps today but there are certainly a few areas we can fix up. No doubt during the week we'll look at those and get to it."
