The Townsville Blackhawks have created history after edging the PNG Hunters in the race for the Intrust Super Cup minor premiership.
Townsville claimed top spot with a 46-22 win over the Redcliffe Dolphins, finishing the regular season one point ahead of the Hunters, who also won in Round 25.
Ladder leaders since Round 3, the Blackhawks finished their inaugural season with 19 wins, one draw and three losses for a total of 43 competition points, scoring 870 points along the way with a for-and-against of +507.
Hot on the Blackhawks' trail throughout the season, the Hunters finished their second year in the Intrust Super Cup on 18 wins, two draws and three losses to earn second place and a maiden finals berth.
The Blackhawks and Hunters will have the week off before meeting at Townsville's Jack Manski Oval in a fortnight, with the winner to earn a place in the Suncorp Stadium decider on September 27.
In other Round 25 results, Ipswich secured third place with a 34-16 win over the Sunshine Coast Falcons; defending premiers Northern Pride thrashed wooden spoon recipients CQ Capras 46-18; Wynnum Manly edged Easts for fourth place and a home elimination final with a 17-10 victory; Souths Logan beat Mackay 32-18 and Tweed Heads accounted for the Norths Devils 40-22.
The fixtures for Week One of the finals see the Jets (third) host the Northern Pride (sixth) at North Ipswich Reserve, while Wynnum Manly Seagulls (fourth) entertain rivals Easts Tigers (fifth) at BMD Kougari Oval.
Both matches will be played on September 6 with the Jets-Pride clash to be televised on Channel 9 at 1.30pm.
Elimination beckons for the loser of Sunday's matches with the winners to meet in Week Two of the finals to earn the right to play the loser of the Townsville-PNG clash in the preliminary final.
