Rugby League fans have less than 48 hours to lodge their votes in Stage One of the selection process for the 2011 NRL All Stars side, with voting closing at 11:59pm AEDT tomorrow night (Tues, Dec 28).
Only a handful of votes separate some players from making the shortlist of 64 for the February 12 match against the Learn Earn Legend! Indigenous All Stars at Skilled Park, including Bulldogs backs Ben Roberts and Trent Hodkinson, Knights players Zeb Taia and Isaac De Gois and Manly stars Brent Kite and Jason King.
The deadline is looming but the public still has until tomorrow night to ensure their favourite players get through to Stage Two by lodging their votes at www.nrl.com.au/allstars.
Tomorrow night, the NRL All Stars Stage One voting will be finalised and the 64-player shortlist will be decided with NRL All Stars coach Wayne Bennett then allocating the shortlisted players into his nominated positions.
Once all players are placed in their positions, Stage Two voting will commence on Monday January 3, 2011 at Midday AEDT and continue through until 11:59pm AEDT on January 27, 2011.
The Harvey Norman Rugby League All Stars is the only representative match in Australian sport in which the public selects the make-up of the teams that feature the best Indigenous Rugby League talent in the country and representatives of each NRL Club as well as players from the Australian, New Zealand and other Test teams. Overview of NRL All Stars voting:
- The first player to be chosen in the NRL All Stars team will be the player who scores the highest number of overall votes in a position.
- Once a player from one club is placed in the team, no other player from that club can be chosen.
- If a player withdraws from the team due to injury, he will be replaced by someone from the bench.
- The open bench spot will then be replaced by someone from the injured player’s club, with the new player having recorded the second highest number of votes from that club, either as a forward, back or utility, depending on the position needed for the bench.
