Kangaroos skipper Cameron Smith will be hoping World Cup glory makes up for a disappointing end to Melbourne's season.

Australian captain Cameron Smith and vice-captain Paul Gallen are among eight players added to the Holden Kangaroos’ World Cup train-on squad today.

Sharks forward Andrew Fifita is the only uncapped player added to the squad, joining Sharks team-mates Todd Carney and Luke Lewis, and the Storm’s Billy Slater, Ryan Hoffman and Cooper Cronk in the ranks.

The 24-man Holden Kangaroos squad for the Rugby League World Cup will be named on Monday, October 7, the day after the NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final.
